15th Annual Eastern SCRABBLE Championship

based on 24 entrants in Division One or 80 overall.

Who: Any NASPA member in good standing who loves SCRABBLE® Brand Crossword Game!
What: A bigger, better, bolder Scrabble experience than ever before, with a 24-game Main Event, organized by Ryan Fischer. 2011 & 2010 champ Joey Mallick will return to defend his title and try for the threepeat*. Also joining the fun are John Luebkemann (4th '09, 3rd '10, 4th '11), Ian Weinstein (2nd '10), and David Gibson (1st, '09). It's shaping up again to be a great field!
Early Bird (2/17, 10 AM) - 8 Games Open ($50 in advance, $60 @ door)
Place prizes (and performance prizes given enough players), skins given for high plays and games, and bounties given for biggest upsets! Get paid for taking down the experts!
Main Event (2/17-2/20) - 24 Games. Based on demand, the Main Event will a feature a separate Open division using the Collins Scrabble Words (CSW) Lexicon! 4 divisions in all: CSW!, Open, Under 1600, and Under 1200 (unlimited play-ups) (Entry fees: $130/$130/$110/$100) The CSW division will be 10-point challenges. Based on attendance, performance prices and bounties will be given out as incentive for those who choose to play up!
Newcomers Tournament (2/18)
Overall, at least 32 fully-rated games over four days, all geared towards rewarding excellence!

Book your room online here or by phone so that we may get credit for the room under our block. Please book nowhere else! There is a $30 commuter fee in effect for those playing in the Main Event and not listed as guest of the Doubletree under our blocks of rooms for at least Saturday and Sunday night. Sharing rooms is greatly encouraged. These rooms are HUGE (760 sq. ft.) and have the capacity to sleep 3 or 4 people comfortably. However, you MUST be listed in the hotel register in order to get credit for sharing a room. Those not listed must pay the commuter fee, and will not be paired otherwise. The only exception is for Charlotte Scrabble Club members.

Success of this tournament and prize distribution are contingent upon us meeting our quota of rooms booked, therefore we greatly encourage you to stay at the host hotel. Price of a room @ the Doubletree for 3 nights under our rate (plus NC Hotel Sales Tax of 16.25%) is $331.31. Two people could stay for $165.66 each. Three, for $110.44!
